Superintendent

Dr. Jana Rueter is honored to be serving as superintendent of schools in Elgin ISD in Elgin, TX. She is a fourth-generation school superintendent and has a great passion for serving students, staff, parents, and community. 

Dr. Rueter has been in the field of public education for 30 years and has served as a teacher, assistant principal, principal, executive director, assistant superintendent, and superintendent. She most recently worked in Leander ISD, Georgetown ISD, and San Angelo ISD prior to coming to Elgin. With her bachelor’s degree from Texas Tech University, her master’s degree from Texas A&M University, and her doctoral degree from The University of Texas, Dr. Rueter has strong affiliations to higher education institutions and vast experience in prestigious educational programs. Most recently, Dr. Rueter was selected as a cohort participant for the Holdsworth Superintendent Leadership Program, which is supporting her as a successful, long-term leader in a role that is critical to promoting student success.

The field of public education has been a priority for Dr. Rueter and her family for generations, and she is proud to serve in a growing, vibrant community focused on developing strong connections and roots for future success. She is a proud mother of three children who have recently completed college or are currently attending college. 

Dr. Rueter and her husband, Dr. John Rueter, are proud to call Elgin home and enjoy building and fostering positive relationships within the Elgin ISD community in the interest of all students.
